Deep aromas of dark, ripe cherries, dark plums and fresh cedary oak are lifted by scents of dark blue and black flowers, revealing notes of mineral and gravel, cigarbox and blood plum with breathing. Initially quite fine and silky, its long, smooth and polished palate delivers remarkable plushness and texture, becoming firmer with time in the glass. Driving long and complete, it’s a remarkable marriage of varietal purity and flavour, with everything in perfect place to cellar for decades.

Moving into a pale-ish golden green, its heady perfume of white flowers, lime and lemon reveals some buttery, toasty and honeyed development, with suggestions of waxiness, smoke and mineral. Superbly long and focused, its round and fleshy core of vibrant fruit extends down a fine chalky undercarriage towards a mouthwatering, steely finish that’s perfectly dry, mouthwatering and even a shade saline. Enough to set me off to Pambula for a bag of oysters…

Underpinned by a fine, firmish spine of mineral tannins, its pristine core of vivacious fruit fills the mouth with layers of flavour and texture, extending with freshness and brightness towards a lingering finish of red licorice and a hint of molasses. Gently wrapped by a soft acidity, it’s heading towards a savoury style and is ready to enjoy now or over the next 2-5 years.

Deep layers of violets, cassis, dark plums and cherries, cedar, cigarbox and vanilla are lifted by a whiff of shiraz-derived spice and mineral undertones. Wonderfully long and complete, stylish and vivacious, this handsome young red drives long and firm down a finely balanced spine, with its layers of fruit extending with a mouthcoating intensity towards a lingering and artfully balanced finish. A long and impressive future ahead!

Fragrant and spicy, with an alluring bouquet of small red berries, cherries, citrus oil and eastern spice, this medium-bodied pinot delivers pleasing weight, gentle fatness and intensity of flavour down its fine, sandpapery backbone, finishing with a savoury aspect and a gentle acidity. Likely to build more flesh and roundness. A terrific wine at just $25 – I’m not sure how they did this! It’s so stable it was still terrific 4 days after opening!
