Its briary, faintly herbal bouquet of redcurrants, blueberries and dark cherries is lifted by musky, peppery aromas, while its ethereal, almost fragile palate, marries suggestions of underbrush with gentle, pristine fruit. Wrapped in a rather taut, almost sappy acidity, it is made from just six rows of fruit and matured in a single foudre (large format barrel).

Long and gentle, unfolding a seamless length of energetic, juicy pear, apple and lemon-like fruit underpinned by a slatey texture, it finishes with restraint and charm, with a lingering nutty, savoury note. Artfully balanced and vivacious.

Its long, juicy expression of blueberries, plums and cranberries is firm but pliant, finishing with refreshing acidity and a note of licorice.

It’s become a stylish, elegant and finely textured cabernet whose deep aromas of cassis, dark plum, mulberries, dark cherries and cedary oak precede a long, gentle and totally complete palate built around a pristine and brightly lit core of vivacious dark fruits. It’s beautifully measured and finely structured, and at five years of age appears to have at least another five years ahead. An excellent cabernet and a certain winner for those who love the texture, purity and charm of this classic variety.

$50.00Jeremy’s score 95/100A joyful young chardonnay whose pristine aromas of grapefruit and yellow peach are lifted by bright floral notes, lemon and ginger, with an underswell of creamy yeast-derived notes and a whiff of chicken stock. It’s long and smooth, with a round, juicy core of grapefruit and lemon finely balanced with tight-grained oak and underpinned by a fine mineral texture, before finishing long, dry and savoury with a mouthwatering lemony acidity. Shapely and pleasingly complex already, it’s more fruitful than previous editions of this wine. Drink any time over the next decade.

Long, polished and translucently pure, its core of yellow peach and lemon butter unfolds mouthfilling layers of complexity, fruit and texture, soaking up its oak and finishing with dryness and tautness. A true vin de garde, but ready to enjoy now if you’re seeking something special.

Gaffy and Neal The Peninsula (Formerly Merricks North) Chardonnay 2025
$80.00Jeremy’s score 98/100A spectacular chardonnay whose voluminous and alluring perfume reveals deep layers of stonefruit, grapefruit and lemon tightly knit with faintly toasty vanilla oak spot lit with complex nuances of spice, creamy nougat and roast chicken pie. Its unctuous core of pristine stonefruit and citrus flavour steamrolls long and clear down a finely textured backbone, driving with power and style towards a fine, focused finish of refreshing and faintly mineral acids. Artfully balanced with smoky oak, it’s quite a masterpiece. Acknowledging the role of Darrin Gaffy in its making, this Chardonnay gets my nod as the finest white wine yet released by Doug Neal.
