Medium to fullish in weight, with a fine, gravelly backbone neath its powerful expression of dark berry/cherry fruit, it’s artfully knit with oak, extending stylishly towards a savoury finish. It’s an outstanding wine that becomes firmer and more granular with time in the glass, suggesting it will build considerably with bottle-age.

Swinney Syrah (Formerly Shiraz) 2022
$45.00Jeremy’s score 95/100Exemplary, stylish and rather Old World, it’s medium to fullish in weight with genuine resemblance to quality St-Joseph. A musky, floral bouquet of cassis, blackberries, redcurrants and cedar/chocolate oak backed by suggestions of baked earth and licorice is lifted by eastern scents of five spice and cinnamon, plus a whiff of potpourri. There’s a hint of menthol as well. Long and layered, with a generous, gravelly palate, it’s dry and textural, with a lingering savoury finish. If you’re drinking it young, give it plenty of aeration first.
-
Telmo Rodriguez Lugar Valbuxan Mencia de Paraje 2019
$75.00Jeremy’s score 93/100Complex and savoury, with a musky, floral perfume of bright red and blue berries, small red flowers and fiery eastern spices with earthy undertones. -
Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
$58.00Jeremy’s score 93/100A long, seamless and polished cabernet with some of the rusticity often seen in South African cabernet. Its deep, faintly meaty aromas of dark berries, plums and cedar/cigarboxy oak precedes a smooth core of cassis and red berry flavour supported by fine, tight-grained tannins. The wine takes a long time to breathe and to shed some reductive aspects – so I suggest double-decanting in its youth. Having watched it closely over a few days I have seen it steadily reveal its true purity and expression. It has the balance and structure to age gracefully.

As a four year-old it has fleshed out beautifully, easing into its spine of tight-grained tannins, extending long and stylish, finishing savoury with notes of fennel and redcurrant.
-

Thomas The O.C. Semillon 2025
$30.00Jeremy’s score 94/100An excellent Hunter semillon that is, quite unusually in fact, wonderful to drink now and through the coming summer but will also develop great complexity and character in the bottle for a decade and more. Its intense, voluminous scents of lemon zest and white flowers reveal a whiff of chalk and mineral, while its mouthfilling core of pristine, translucently clear flavour drives long and crunchy towards a refreshing, dry and faintly saline finish. Honestly, if seafood is your thing…
