Mount Pleasant Mothervine Pinot Noir 2022

$60.00

Here’s a delicious medium-bodied Hunter Valley red wine, some of whose aromas and flavours could only come from pinot noir. Beginning earthy, leathery and faintly meaty, it then offers scents of dark plums, berries and cherries backed by restrained oak and notes of charcuterie meats, later becoming more floral and perfumed. It’s supple and gentle, with a slatey spine of fine tannins supporting its bright core of vibrant fruit, finishing with pleasing length, suggestions of red licorice and some savoury qualities. Delicious!

Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant was the McWilliam family's beachhead in the Hunter Valley. Today it is owned by the Medich family and remains home to classic, traditional wines made from ancient and important sites. Its efforts with semillon under the Elizabeth and Lovedale labels are the stuff of Hunter legend, while the collection of OP & OH, Maurice O'Shea Shiraz and Rosehill Shiraz represent several of the most historic vineyards in New South Wales. Adrian Sparks, chief winemaker since 2018, has overseen an evolution of a true house style within which the superb old sites can really express themselves. Stylistically, these are Hunter classics of course, but carry more than enough expression and completeness to suggest both the northern Rhone and Burgundy.
