Mount Pleasant Old Paddock & Old Hill Shiraz
Lower Hunter Valley
Price Range at Release: $50-$99
Vintage: 2022
Alc %: 13.5
$ Rel: 60
A superb, fine, Burgundy-like shiraz whose spicy fragrance of red cherries, redcurrants, blood plums and white pepper reveals a hint of meatiness and some very restrained, cedary oak. It's richly and generously flavoured, with a mouthfilling presence of pristine redcurrant, cherry and raspberry-like fruit underpinned by fine, slatey tannins before finishing supremely long and savoury. Artfully balanced and delivering medium-weight Hunter style on steroids.

Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant was the McWilliam family's beachhead in the Hunter Valley. Today it is owned by the Medich family and remains home to classic, traditional wines made from ancient and important sites. Its efforts with semillon under the Elizabeth and Lovedale labels are the stuff of Hunter legend, while the collection of OP & OH, Maurice O'Shea Shiraz and Rosehill Shiraz represent several of the most historic vineyards in New South Wales. Adrian Sparks, chief winemaker since 2018, has overseen an evolution of a true house style within which the superb old sites can really express themselves. Stylistically, these are Hunter classics of course, but carry more than enough expression and completeness to suggest both the northern Rhone and Burgundy.
