This truly exceptional shiraz unfolds a complex, heady and profoundly floral bouquet of rose petals, dark plums, redcurrants, blackberries and briar backed by suggestions of game, mineral and cracked pepper. Medium to fullish in weight, its long, smooth core of dark fruits knits tightly with smoky, cigarboxy oak. It's underpinned by superb mineral tannins and effortlessly delivers astonishing length and balance. Artfully shaped and finished, it's likely to become richer and more velvet-smooth over the journey.

Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant was the McWilliam family's beachhead in the Hunter Valley. Today it is owned by the Medich family and remains home to classic, traditional wines made from ancient and important sites. Its efforts with semillon under the Elizabeth and Lovedale labels are the stuff of Hunter legend, while the collection of OP & OH, Maurice O'Shea Shiraz and Rosehill Shiraz represent several of the most historic vineyards in New South Wales. Adrian Sparks, chief winemaker since 2018, has overseen an evolution of a true house style within which the superb old sites can really express themselves. Stylistically, these are Hunter classics of course, but carry more than enough expression and completeness to suggest both the northern Rhone and Burgundy.
