A product of its vintage, with a promisingly musky, floral and spicy bouquet of dark berries and plums backed by earthy, meaty notes. It's medium to fullish in weight, with a very firm, drying and rod-like spine that's a little at odds with the laid -back nature of its fruit. It finishes a little hard, without great drive of flavour.

Leigh Clarnette is an experienced hand at winemaking with a long history in and affection for the wines of western Victoria. For his sins, his time at Roseworthy College (studying winemaking) coincided with mine. His wines are typically made from small individual vineyards whose choice of variety have been strongly influenced by site and aspect. The cornerstone feature of Leigh's modern wines are their elegance, depth of varietal expression, plus a style trait that is more European than so-called traditional Australian. Typically, they deliver in terms of flavour and value.
