Scented with musky spices, rose petals, dark cherries and whiff of blueberry, it's smooth, supple and gentle, with a powdery spine of loose-knit tannins that will build more firmness with time. Gentle, unctuous, easy-paced and packed with perfectly ripened fruit, it finishes quite savoury in a southern Rhone-ish style, with a lingering core of flavour, mouthwatering acids and a suggestion of red licorice. Recently opened, it was at its best of Day 3, which gives you some idea of its quality, balance and ageability. A totally unexpected pleasure.

Clarnette
Leigh Clarnette is an experienced hand at winemaking with a long history in and affection for the wines of western Victoria. For his sins, his time at Roseworthy College (studying winemaking) coincided with mine. His wines are typically made from small individual vineyards whose choice of variety have been strongly influenced by site and aspect. The cornerstone feature of Leigh's modern wines are their elegance, depth of varietal expression, plus a style trait that is more European than so-called traditional Australian. Typically, they deliver in terms of flavour and value.
