Fragrant and floral, this spicy, slightly meaty and old-fashioned firm dry red delivers an earthy, leathery expression of red cherries, plums and berries backed by restrained older oak influences. Full in weight but neither too heavy nor overripened, itÕs long, concentrated and brambly, with a delightfully bony chassis of firm, astringent tannin. Still rather lean and closed, it should develop well.

Morris' historic trio of Shiraz, Durif and Blue Imperial (which has from time to time been labelled as its pseudonym of Cinsault) are typically rustic, earthy and meaty reds that are steadily acquiring more depth and structure. The deeply flavoured, wild and gamey Durif is a house speciality. Its owner, Pernod Ricard, is reinvesting in its Morris vineyards to develop an iconic series of table and fortified wines. The results have included the first release of the extraordinary CHM Durif from 2007 (95/100, drink 2027-2037).
