Luscious, deeply flavoured and finely balanced, this excellent durif presents an almost bloody and sour-edged expression of dark cherry, plum and berry flavour backed by typical varietal notes of roasting meats and dried herbs: bay leaf and oregano especially. There's an undercurrent of dark chocolate and a lingering note of black jelly bean. A superb red for a very good barbecue.

Winery
Morris
Morris' historic trio of Shiraz, Durif and Blue Imperial (which has from time to time been labelled as its pseudonym of Cinsault) are typically rustic, earthy and meaty reds that are steadily acquiring more depth and structure. The deeply flavoured, wild and gamey Durif is a house speciality. Its owner, Pernod Ricard, is reinvesting in its Morris vineyards to develop an iconic series of table and fortified wines. The results have included the first release of the extraordinary CHM Durif from 2007 (95/100, drink 2027-2037).
