Winery

Capercaillie
Capercaillie is a mature Hunter vineyard that also sources fruit from McLaren Vale and Hilltops. Its most consistent wine has been its Hunter Semillon (formerly labelled as Creel), a typically lean and mineral Hunter expression of the variety that can age with grace and charm, which has resurfaced from 2013. Its flagship The Ghillie Shiraz has also reappeared in 2013 after a long absence, in the shape of a more polished, luscious style than its predecessors, but a charming expression of Hunter regionality nonetheless. The less expensive Hunter Valley Shiraz from the same vintage (90/100, drink 2021-2025+) has a fragrance and suppleness suggestive of Mount Pleasant's Rosehill.
