It’s smooth and sumptuous, medium to fullish in weight, with an evenly paced expression of plump, vivacious fruit supported by a fine, chalky backbone and finishing with a savoury, almost saline aspect. Dominated by its charming Eden Valley component, it becomes finer and more elegant with aeration, delivering more length and mid palate flavour.

A blend of Eden Valley and Barossa floor shiraz, it delivers Eden Valley charm and balance with a dollop of black cherries and tar from the western valley floor itself. Laced with peppery scents of cassis, mulberries, redcurrants, blood plums and knit with cedar/chocolate/cigarboxy oak, it reveals nuances of gravel, lavender and five spice. Wound around a schisty spine of mineral tannins, it’s medium to fullish in weight, long and elegant, revealing some pleasing meatiness before finishing savoury and stylish. A stunner.

Powerful and richly flavoured, it unfolds a complex, meaty bouquet of dark plums, blackberries and dark cherries knit with chocolatey oak and lifted by fiery eastern spices. Despite its power, it shows the restraint of the vintage, with a core of black and red fruits driving long and unctuous towards a lingering finish of licorice and polished leather. With the balance and expression of a wine many times its price, it has to be one of the bargains of the century.

With a dense purple-red colour, it unfolds briary layers of blackberries, blueberries, redcurrants and liqueur cherries with undertones of dark chocolate lifted by musky scents of spice and cracked pepper. Long and seamless, smooth and sumptuous, its plush core of dark plums and cherries knits with smoky mocha oak and a fine, drying spine of mineral tannins. Finishing with lingering notes of tar and fennel, baked earth and black licorice, it’s actually better on the third day of opening than the first. So it’s very good and will last the distance!

It’s a wild, heady, pungent and emphatic wine that needs either cellaring or significant breathing to deliver its best. Laced with dark flowers and musky spices, it’s steeped in dense aromas of dark plums, blueberries, licorice and bitumen, with star anise gradually appearing. Saturated with dense black, blue and red fruit that borders on bloodiness, it’s tarry and meaty with a hint of currant, driving forever towards a lingering and savoury finish of red licorice and dark cherries.

Laced with dark pepper and exotic spice, it’s smoky and briary, unfolding notes of roast meats, boot polish and walnuts beneath its generous dollops of plush, fiery fruit. Its exceptional texture, structure and balance stamp it as a high-level Dave Powell wine.

$750.00Jeremy’s score 98/100A superlative and very Australian shiraz which unfolds a heady, deeply floral perfume of cassis, redcurrants, musk and raspberries tightly knit with cedar/chocolate oak and lifted by scents of rose petals plus a hint of spearmint. Fullish in weight, it’s piercingly intense, long and elegant, with a translucently bright core of pristine small red fruits framed by a crunchy, gravelly spine and wrapped in a mouthwatering, perfectly focused acidity. Gentle, supple and willowy, it’s an essay in harmony and balance.
