The iconic small vineyard of the Mornington Peninsula, Main Ridge Estate, is turning 50. Established by Nat and Rosalie White, under whose guidance it evolved into one of this country’s singular small wine estates, Main Ridge is today owned by the Sexton family. Winemaker James Sexton has deftly assumed the reins from Nat White and has seen the incorporation of fruit from other nearby small vineyards into new labels for the brand. Altogether, it’s a wonderful story of a seamless transition between families and the best possible winemaking succession that the vineyard’s many followers could have dreamt of. The wines are hard to source, but worth every effort.
