Mitolo Savitar Shiraz 2002

Earthy, spicy Rh™ne-ish shiraz with generous, briary but slightly straightforward fruit and a substantial dose of mocha/chocolate/vanilla barrel ferment characters from American cooperage. Very pleasing shorter-term style, lacking the depth and structure for the long term.

Winery

Mitolo
Frank Mitolo established his wine business in 1999, with well-known Barossa winemaker Ben Glaetzer as his winemaking partner. In a very short time the brand developed an international reputation for the juicy ripeness, impressive oak and complexity of its wines. While Mitolo's style is unashamedly exaggerated and sumptuous, with cabernet sauvignon it's outrageously adventurous! The aim is to pick fruit on flavour ripeness, which with many producers can run a fine line between balance and the consequences of overripeness. Mitolo does it better than most, and I'm beginning to get a feel for the idiosyncratic Jester Cabernet Sauvignon, which has achieved better balance in recent vintages.
