Deeply coloured, scented with bright aromas of cassis, blueberries, dark plums and blackberries backed by cedar/vanilla oak and lifted by a whiff of spice and pepper, this medium to fullish red has a pleasing drive of red and black fruits, licorice and spice, underpinned by fine, drying tannins and tightly knit with polished oak. It’s shaped like a northern Rhone wine, with a generous mid-palate core of fruit, finishing soft and gentle with savoury notes. Very honest, and excellent value at $40.
