There is of course mass-produced sauvignon blanc that can smell and taste like it has been subject to a crossbreeding attempt with a garden vegetable or else has come too close to a passing cat. There is also some excellent, vivacious and truly varietally expressive sauvignon blanc that’s a perfect al fresco wine at very least. These examples typically flaunt the brightly lit flavours the grape can accumulate when grown at a sympathetic site in a suitable climate. Their inspiration might come from the Loire Valley and Bordeaux in France, or the Napa in California. It’s not particularly well known that high-end Australian sauvignon blanc is right up there with the best of the rest. Here is our sauvignon blanc and blends selection, each of which proves my point. Each wine is perfect to enjoy right now as you watch the sun disappear this Indian summer.
