Orlando (Formerly Jacob’s Creek) Centenary Hill Shiraz 1998
A thick, rather cloying and blocky Barossa shiraz whose assertive, if cooked, jammy and rather simple presence of very ripe and slightly minty flavours is somewhat overawed by very smoky, meaty and blocky oak-derived influences. The bouquet reveals dark plums and berries with charcuterie-like undertones, while the palate is very juicy indeed, lacking in complexity and finishing thick and cloying. The fruit is too ripe, the oak too smoky.

There's a new design I rather like, collating together the Jacaranda Ridge -Ę one of Coonawarra's elite cabernets - plus the typically minty Lawsons Padthaway shiraz, the simply superb Bungalow Barossa cabernet of exceptional style and elegance, plus the benchmark Eden Valley Steingarten Riesling.
