Hollick Tannery Block Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2008

Hard, drying and tannic, lacking genuine depth of fruit, with faintly jammy aromas of blackberries, briar, mocha-like oak, currants and raisins. Initially quite plump and deeply ripened, it then loses freshness down the palate, becoming more astringent, baked and hard-edged.

Winery

Hollick
Hollick Estates is a well-established name in Coonawarra whose vines overlie a healthy measure of red dirt and whose winery is equipped with a superb restaurant. Today it's owned by the Hong Kong Leunig Investment Co. Hollick's elegant table wines have stepped up to the mark in recent vintages, particularly with the 2012 Ravenswood and Wilgha Shiraz. Additionally, I particularly enjoy the brightness and elegance of the mid-market Cabernet Sauvignon and Stock Route Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the sheer drinkability of the late harvest The Nectar Riesling.
