Bannockburn Shiraz 2023

$50.00

Very perfumed, floral, spicy and also herbal, with deep aromas of dark cherries, blood plums and redcurrants backed by suggestions of smoky cedary oak, cola and snap pea. It’s medium in weight, with some pleasing forward juiciness and flesh, as vibrant black and red fruits extend with attractive length down a crunchy but gentle spine towards a faintly herbal finish with faintly hard and green-edged acids.

Winery

Bannockburn
There has been a change in winemaking guard at Bannockburn, with a commitment for the company to return to a more mainstream concept in its wines. Bannockburn has proven over the decades that it has an exceptional vineyard, but its last decade has been riddled with wines of a more experimental nature. I very much hope to see this very important Victorian winery return to its former high-end status as soon as possible. The newly released De La Terre Pinot Noir from 2015 is still too stalky and lacking in structure. There are clearly still legacy issues to work through.
