A generous, deeply ripened if slightly jammy cabernet whose aromas of blackberry confiture, dark plums and sweet creamy vanilla oak nuances are backed by suggestions of mint, menthol and dried herbs. ItÕs long and smooth, with a polished length of slightly confectionary fruit underpinned by a firm, drying spine and cedary oak lack. It just lacks the intensity and core of true ripeness for an even higher rating.

Winery
Alkoomi
Alkoomi was one of the founding vineyards of the Great Southern region. Located in the northern Frankland River sub region, its recent vintages are returning to the style and structure upon which they developed their reputation. Leading the current releases are the Melaleuca Riesling from 2016 (95/100, drink 2028-2036), a wine of classical perfume, purity and longevity, plus the elegant and restrained Blackbutt blend of red Bordeaux varieties from 2010.
