Already showing some polished leather-like development, this ageing cabernet blend marries a fiery presence of black and red fruits with assertive, slightly raw mocha-like cedar/chocolate oak. Surprisingly refined and light-footed on the palate, with an earthy, meaty expression of dark, briary fruit, it finishes slightly green-edged and metallic. Suggestive of a marginally uneven ripening.

Alkoomi
Alkoomi was one of the founding vineyards of the Great Southern region. Located in the northern Frankland River sub region, its recent vintages are returning to the style and structure upon which they developed their reputation. Leading the current releases are the Melaleuca Riesling from 2016 (95/100, drink 2028-2036), a wine of classical perfume, purity and longevity, plus the elegant and restrained Blackbutt blend of red Bordeaux varieties from 2010.
