A good effort from a very cool vintage, this dusty, firm and slightly sappy shiraz has a peppery aroma of cassis, plums and mulberries backed by cedar/vanilla oak and strong herbal characters of snow peas and capsicum. Moderately full in weight, delivering a pleasing length of lively blackberry and blackcurrant flavours, it is however framed by a slightly raw extract and finishes with lingering vegetal, capsicum-like undertones.
A dusty aroma of dried herbs and musky spices underpins a briary expression of cassis, raspberries and plums with undertones of cedar and capsicum. Initially forward, round and fleshy, the palate then becomes greenish, thin and sappy, lacking genuine length. Some well-handled oak doesn’t quite conceal its stressed and green-edged nature.
Ripe, jammy aromas of plums and berries with herbal undertones of mint and menthol are lifted by sweet cedar/vanilla oak, spicy notes of clove, cinnamon and white pepper, plus a lifted floral aspect. Initially forward and minty, its confiture-like expression of blackberries and redcurrants becomes more raisined and currant-like down the palate, tasting more hollow and thin before a green-edged and sappy finish.
A smooth, polished and savoury shiraz with a spicy, floral fragrance of sweet red and black berries, plums, white pepper, cloves and cinnamon backed by restrained cedar/vanilla oak plus musky suggestions of nutmeg and animal hide. Medium to full in weight, its fine-grained expression of juicy fruit is very slightly cooked, with a faint green-edged sourness at the finish. Very well handled, but marginally under and overripened.
Restrained, spicy aromas of sweet raspberries, blue flowers and redcurrants backed by dusty nuances of cloves, cinnamon and white pepper, with creamy undertones of vanilla French oak. Rather forward, with lively cranberry, cassis and blueberry flavours, it becomes rather lean and hollow, finishing a little flat and cooked, with a raw-edged finish of greenish tannins.
Closed, meaty and spicy, this forward and chocolatey shiraz becomes lean and cooked, lacking mid palate weight and flavour, finishing quite thin and hollow, with tart acids and faintly sour-edged fruit.
Lacking genuine conviction and ripeness, with a lightly oaked, peppery fragrance of sweet red and black berries backed by greenish, vegetal nuances. Forward and juicy, with initially lively blackberry and redcurrant flavours, it thins out towards a sappy and slightly metallic finish.
Dusty and herbal, with a sweet bouquet of cassis, raspberries, redcurrants, dark plums and fresh cedar/vanilla oak with an underswell of bell pepper and capsicum. Supple and elegant, itÕs medium to full-bodied, with a pleasing length of small red and black berries and dusty oak that finishes with fractionally sour-edged and faintly herbaceous notes.
Complex and stylish, with a slightly meaty, funky fragrance of blackberries, dark plums, mulberries and fresh cedar/vanilla oak backed by a regional whiff of menthol and lifted by a sweet floral note. ItÕs medium to full-bodied with deep, sour-edged flavours of plums, blackberries and cassis smoothly knit with savoury oaky notes and supported by a fine, powdery spine of drying tannins. It finishes faintly mineral and should become significantly softer with time.
