A reserved handsomely oaked and cedary cabernet whose restrained berry and plum-like fruit reveals dusty undertones of dried herbs and white cheese mould Its rather green-edged backbone is smoothed over by its vanilla oak while it finishes quite edgy with meaty rustic influences
The best Leeuwin Estate cabernet yet released has a smoky cedary bouquet of subdued dark plum berry violet and cassis-like aroma that takes plenty of time to unfold becoming quite heady in the process Its long smooth and polished with handsomely ripened flavours of plums berries and assertive polished vanilla oak underpinned by firm astringent tannin The slightly baked characters that unravel shortly after opening do tend to dissipate with time in the glass and this wine should cellar with some distinction
Well made and intensely flavoured with just a faint suggestion of under and overripened fruit Intense aromas of cassis blackberries and dark plums are carefully integrated with assertive cedarchocolate oak Its plump confiture-like expression of small dark berries and smoky vanilla oak is supported by a fine-grained spine of loose-knit tannins finishing with a faintly edgy metallic and sappy aspect
Very polished and refined elegant and stylish this handsomely crafted cabernet marries fresh small dark berry fruit with handsome rather polished and smoky oak-derived elements of cedar and vanilla Its supple and smooth with undertones of menthol and mint but reflects the coolness of the season with greenish notes of snow pea and capsicum
Deeply ripened with length structure but perhaps a hint of excessive hang time Deep black-fruited and briary with alluring notes of berries and chocolates backed by hints of undergrowth chestnut and fragrant fine-grained oak its long elegant and smoky with a firm fine-grained astringency Long and even with dusty nuances of dried herbs it presents a long cassis-like palate that finishes with a hint of currant and stewed fruit
Long and elegant with a heady floral perfume of cassis raspberries and fresh cedarvanilla oak lifted by musky scents of violets and backed by a whiff of menthol Medium in weight it’s smooth and evenly ripened with a translucent piercingly fresh expression of juicy dark berry flavours underpinned by dusty tannins finishing with freshness and a bright acidity Just lacks the depth and emphasis for an even higher rating
Finely crafted balanced and elegant with a vibrant pristine and sweetly oaked fragrance of vanilla and cedar cassis and raspberries lifted by scents of violets Its elegant medium to full-bodied palate underpins its bright slightly minty and translucent flavours of intense berry fruits with a supple loose-knit spine finishing with charming length and freshness
Scented with dusty floral notes of violets cassis small red berries and smoky oak its long and elegant with a shapely palate underpinned by fine grainy tannin and finishing with a hint of minerality Its likely to mature with some style losing its faint sappiness and metallic edge with time in the bottle
An elegant if faintly lean and sappy cabernet whose herbal aromas of dark plums cassis and mulberries are handsomely cloaked by cedardark chocolate oak and backed by a hint of spearmint Its intense and forward with marginally jammy fruit that extends with suppleness over a mineral spine towards a fractionally metallic and green-edged finish Over time it will lose some of these herbal aspects
Dusty floral and faintly herbal with lively aromas of small red and black berries backed by cedary oak and a whiff off peppercorn Long and elegant rimmed by faintly herbal metallic edges it finishes greenish and herbal
Herbal faintly menthol-like aromas of dark plums cranberries cassis and cedardark chocolate oak precede a long smoky and firmish palate whose pleasing length of small black and red berries and vanilla oak overlies a gravelly faintly mineral undercarriage Just lacks the core of expression and intensity for an even higher rating
Smoky graphite-like aromas of cassis blackberries and dark plums are knit with cedary oak and lifted by a whiff of violets Profoundly ripened its long and gravelly with a dark almost currant-like spectrum of fruit wrapped in fine firmish tannins and given very assertive oak It hasnt quite the vivaciousness depth of mid palate fruit and balance for an even higher rating
