Easily superior to most Australian pinots of $45 and more, this plush, juicy expression from the Yarra Valley unfolds a sweetly floral and faintly minty bouquet of dark cherries, raspberries, blood plums and gentle cedary oak backed by a whiff of dried herbs. Long and elegant, with a pristine, luscious core of vivacious fruit, it drives down a fine-grained spine towards a fresh, focused finish of charming balance. Quite remarkable value.
Brightly lit aromas of raspberries, red cherries, musky spices and a whiff of beetroot are backed by floral scents of red rose petals. It’s supple, gentle and medium-bodied, settling down to reveal pleasing red berry/cherry fruits underpinned by a fine, drying backbone of silky tannins and punctuated by a balanced acidity. It will certainly build more richness and depth over time.
Scented with faintly smoky notes of dark cherries, redcurrants, dark plums and cedary oak backed by suggestions of beetroot, a whiff of citrus oil and lift of fresh rose petals, this delicious young pinot delivers a rich, flavoursome core of fruit that drives down a surprisingly form and textural spine of crunchy tannins towards a long, measured and artfully balanced finish. And it’s only $26!!! A tip: if you want to drink it shortly after release, decant it. Once it has the chance to aerate it fleshes out perfectly and the acids integrate neatly back into the palate.
A punchy, juicy and vivacious expression of this under-planted variety whose faintly funky and mineral aromas reveal a spectrum of gooseberries, white peach, melon and creamy, nutty, yeast-derived complexity. Medium to fullish in dimension, it s luscious core of flavour extends long and savoury down a fine mineral spine, finishing with ferrous, saline and creamy nougat-like notes plus a mouthwatering acidity.
The more pinot blanc I taste the more I wonder whatever the fuss was over pinot gris. Here’s a spotlessly pure, vibrant and zesty white whose pristine fragrance of white rose petals, pear and red apple skin precede a generous, shapely and varietally pure palate whose juicy, crunchy core of fruit extends long and shapely down a firming dustiness towards a refreshing finish of mouthwatering acids. Simply beautiful, with the kind of brightness and perfume suggestive of the northernmost regions of Italy.
