Deeply layered aromas of intense black and red berries, cedar/cigarboxy oak and earthy nuances overly suggestions of mineral and gravel. Long and supple, it’s deeply flavoured, finely structured and supremely elegant. Framed by ultra-fine and pliant tannins, it’s beautifully shaped but still rather closed.
Principally merlot, with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc playing violin nos. 2 and 3, this fine Bordeaux represents exceptional value. Merlot drives its almost bloody expression of dark plums, cherries and redcurrants, while there’s a typical regional presence of gravel and dried herbs. It’s ripe and dark, with pleasing length and strength of fruit underpinned by a fine, drying backbone. Artfully balanced.
Simply a brilliant, long, fine and textural Right Bank blend whose developing, faintly cigarboxy bouquet of dark cherries and plums, redcurrants dark chocolates and orange rind precedes a long, measured and beautifully balanced palate whose dark fruit extends with perfect ripeness and excellent oak integration down and finely structured and faintly gravelly spine towards a lingering and finely balanced finish.
Pungent aromas of ripe, plummy and cassis-like fruit are lifted by scents of violets and licorice and backed by pungent notes of mocha, ground coffee and chicory. Sporting excellent weight and power, its long, finely balanced core of fruit extends with strength and power down a firm, grainy spine of tight-knit tannins, finishing quite savoury and bacony, with a wonderful acidity.
Sweet scents of raspberries, violets and cassis backed by smoky vanilla oak are lifted by notes of fresh mint and menthol. While its oak is assertively smoky and mocha-like, there’s some pleasing length and elegance of fruit, but in reality the oak is overdone and the wine too caramel-like at the finish. Supported by firm, drying tannins, it’s a little angular and lacking genuine poise and balance.
A classic Old World blend – in this case from merlot and cabernet franc. Its earthy, faintly leathery fragrance of dark cherries, redcurrants, blueberries and dark plums reveals cedary oak and a whiff of dried herbs. Supported by a fine but kernelly backbone, it’s long and elegant, with a charming depth of dark, luscious fruits, cigarbox and chocolatey oak. The longer it breathes, the more textural, chewy and savoury it becomes, but there’s never ever any shortage of fruit. Watch it evolve.
Deep, faintly floral aromas of black and red cherries, faintly smoky, spicy oak and dried herbs reveal a hint of menthol. It’s luscious and forward, but stalls well short of moving long down the palate, lacking genuine structure, drive and texture.
Green-edged aromas of dark berries and cherries with musky, tomato-stalk undertones precede a sappy, herbaceous palate whose fruit and structure appear to be supported via some under-ripe stalky components. The result is a skinny mid palate with a vegetal undercurrent suggestive of green pepper. Unlikely to age well.
