Yalumba Old Bush Vine Grenache 2006

An honest, simple and early-drinking grenache with a stewy, rather meaty bouquet of dark plums and blackberries with undertones of currants. Framed by modest tannins, forward and juicy, its smooth, soft expression of redcurrants, plums and currants then finishes rather thin.

Winery

Yalumba
The historic Yalumba winery is the centrepiece of a series of the Hill-Smith family-owned vineyard holdings throughout South Australia and other states. Yalumba's wines largely focus on the Barossa (which incorporates the Eden Valley subregion) and contain several flagship labels. There's a seamlessness, elegance and integration characteristic of Yalumba wines, whose reds typically incorporate some tightly-knit cedary oak from the company's own cooper. The 2012 The Signature red, the finest under this label I have tasted, exemplifies this perfectly. Even the 2009 Octavius, from a hot season, is more elegant and savoury than the occasional fruit an oak bombs that have preceded it. Another 2012 release worth seeking is the Tri-Centenary Vineyard Grenache -  a regional classic.
