Marcarini Del Commune Di La Morra Barolo 2018

$80.00

It’s an older-style Barolo and it certainly needs decanting and aeration to deliver its stuff. Relatively paler and with some amber edges, it’s heady, musky, earthy and truffly, but eventually coaxes its red berry/cherry/blood plum fruit to emerge. Initially lean and almost bland, over time it opens layers of flavour, richness and texture, ultimately revealing a beautiful core of red fruits framed by fine, firm, powdery tannins and augmented by earthy, leathery and faintly tarry complexity. It’s eventually supremely long and complete, smooth and savoury, finishing with exceptional drive. A total charmer in the end. Please, heed my advice and give it oxygen before you plunge in. I’m writing these words on day 3.
