A fine, restrained and supple pinot whose dusty, faintly herbal aromas of dark cherries, raspberries and strawberries are lifted by scents of eastern spices and rose petals and backed by fresh cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak, notes of forest floor and citrus oil. A vivacious, sour-edged core of red cherries, blueberries and strawberries extends with viscosity, drive and focus down a fine, powdery spine. Likely to build over time in the bottle.

Delamere
Shane Holloway and Fran Austin are a young couple who have turned up in Northern Tasmania from the Adelaide Hills and Kalgoorlie (WA) respectively. Their combined experience and the track record they have already assembled at Delamere suggests that this will be a label worth watching, potential already realised from the 2012 vintage onwards. While the non-vintage sparkling wines are well worthy of attention, I have a very soft spot for the very stylish and savoury vintage Blanc de Blanc, even if the 2012 edition was perhaps a little heavily worked for its depth of fruit and forward nature.
