Finely balanced and shapely, this tightly drilled, medium to long term red has an evolving, earthy and faintly mushroomy bouquet of dark olives, cassis, blackberries and dark plums with leathery, meaty undertones. ItÕs elegant and smooth, with pristine flavours of cassis, dark plums and blackberries and tightly knit oak supported by a fine, pliant and slatey spine. It finishes with astringency, a mineral note and a lingering suggestion of dark olives.

Winery
d'Arenberg
d'Arenberg is surely one of the planet's largest makers of quality grenache-based red wine. Based in McLaren Vale, a region fortuitously blessed with large, ancient vineyards of this southern Rhône variety, this idiosyncratic winery somehow manages to make a wider range of wines each year and keep itself at the cutting edge of labelling anti-puffery (viz. The Noble Wrinkled Riesling et al). d'Arenberg's style is to fashion table wines of complexity and rustic charm. This approach is in evidence across a wide range of varieties and blends, with a strong emphasis on southern Rhône combinations. Other wines, such as the Dead Arm Shiraz and the Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon are rather more McLaren Vale and contemporary, although not entirely lacking in winemaker-derived character and complexity.
