d'Arenberg The Noble Wrinkled Riesling
McLaren Vale
Price Range at Release: $12-$19
Vintage: 2011
Alc %: 10.0
A fresh, focused, long and brightly lit expression of this dessert wine whose scent of orange rind, lemon blossom and apricot reveals waxy nuances of clove and cinnamon. ItÕs luscious and sweet, with an evenly ripened expression of tangy citrus, peach and honeyed fruit underpinned by a fine sherbet-like texture and tied neatly together by a bright, lemony acidity.

Winery

d'Arenberg
d'Arenberg is surely one of the planet's largest makers of quality grenache-based red wine. Based in McLaren Vale, a region fortuitously blessed with large, ancient vineyards of this southern Rhône variety, this idiosyncratic winery somehow manages to make a wider range of wines each year and keep itself at the cutting edge of labelling anti-puffery (viz. The Noble Wrinkled Riesling et al). d'Arenberg's style is to fashion table wines of complexity and rustic charm. This approach is in evidence across a wide range of varieties and blends, with a strong emphasis on southern Rhône combinations. Other wines, such as the Dead Arm Shiraz and the Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon are rather more McLaren Vale and contemporary, although not entirely lacking in winemaker-derived character and complexity.
