Winery

Zema Estate is an third generation family-owned red wine specialist which owns several significant vineyards in Coonawarra – totalling around 60 ha – which it has always tended traditionally, by hand. From humble beginning in 1982 the company has become a reliable maker of typically medium-weight, textural wines from traditional Coonawarra varieties that can cellar with charm and reliability. The best are quite remarkable, and the signs are clear that the company is now back to its very best. The wines of Family Selection are riper and more showy. It would be remiss not to mention the loss in 2017 of Matt Zema, a brilliant leader and a friend of great humility whose son, Demetrio – himself a progressive young lawyer – has stepped into the business with the provision of new energy and ideas. His uncle, Nick, continues to operate the business founded by his parents, (the late) Demetrio and Francesca.
