Tolpuddle Chardonnay
Coal River Valley

Vintage: 2024
Alc %: 12.0

A beautifully crafted, mineral and schisty chardonnay whose alluring fragrance of apple skin, grapefruit, oyster shell and coriander reveal undertones of schist and brine. It's medium in weight, reserved and focused, with some forward plumpness and very pleasing length, finishing with a lemony freshness a faint and brittleness plus a chalky mineral note. Wonderfully balanced, generous and strident in the purity of its fruit expression, it's fresh, tangy and saline to finish. It just lacks the exceptional length of the greatest vintages.

Tolpuddle
Tolpuddle was planted in 1988. It's a small vineyard in the Coal River Valley in Tasmania, a region with limitless possibilities. Planted to pinot noir and chardonnay, it was purchased in early 2011 by the team that owns Shaw & Smith in the Adelaide Hills. From my perspective, the wines have shown a steady development and improvement as the new owners have come to understand the site and its potential. While it has collected a number of significant awards, I firmly believe that Tolpuddle's best days lie ahead.
