It's been pleasing to see the evolution of structure in this label over the years, and the 2020 edition delivers the drive, perfume and structure I now expect from this site. A heady, floral perfume of red cherries, blood plums, reveals a whiff of citrus oil ana mushroom. It's long and fleshy, with a charmingly plump core of cherry/berry fruit that moves down a loose-knit spine towards a spicy finish of red licorice. Very reserved, but likely to build considerably over time.

Winery

Somewhat under the radar, Scorpo has one of the Mornington Peninsula's finest vineyards which regularly produces stylish and restrained expressions of finely textured pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris and shiraz. The coming into production of the company's close-planted vineyard has given Paul Scorpo's team more options to work with, and has opened the door to some stellar wines under the Eocene Chardonnay and Pinot Noir labels. Completing this stellar range are some terrific wines from pinot gris/grigio and shiraz. Despite some upwards movement in recent years, the wines remain under-priced and to my mind represent exceptional value.
