Oakridge 864 Aqueduct Block Henk Vineyard Pinot Noir
Yarra Valley
Price Range at Release: $50-$99
Vintage: 2022
Alc %: 13.3
$ Rel: 90
A pretty, forward young pinot whose moderately intense and gently oaked aromas of red cherries and raspberries reveal herbal suggestions of capsicum and snap pea. While there's some pleasing juiciness up front, the palate lacks genuine fruit length and structure, falling away towards a skinny finish.

Oakridge
Oakridge is a stellar small Yarra Valley domain for whom Dave Bicknell crafts a range of cerebral, finely structured wines. There has been a distinct movement over the last few vintages towards riper, more generously fruited wines of significantly better balance between fruit, oak and acid. While this might have passed by unnoticed in many quarters, it is indeed significant because David Bicknell's wines have become important style markers for many winemakers in the Yarra Valley and other cool Australian wine regions. In my view, this easing back from the extreme end of the pendulum swing has greatly benefited Oakridge's wines, which as a group now deliver the requisite depth (of often quite remarkably pure) fruit to hit new heights of quality, style and balance. With the explosion of vineyard-based wines under the Local Vineyard series and 864 premiums, more will find their way into The Australian Wine Annual once they achieve the minimum requirement of 3 vintages.
