Still quite coiled and waiting to flesh out, this shiraz is medium to fullish in weight and unfolds a bright perfume of cassis, redcurrants, raspberries and cedar/pine needle oak which is lifted by musky floral notes and scents of citrus oil, eastern spice and baked earth. Underpinned by some firmish, drying tannins and knit with oak that is perhaps too planky and assertive, it extends with pleasing length towards a drying, savoury finish. Lacks the depth of fruit sweetness to be really convincing.

Leeuwin Estate
One of the founding vineyards of the Margaret River wine region, and home to the largest privately owned Karri forest on earth, Leeuwin Estate is a signature winery with a definitive wine -Ę its Art Series Chardonnay. Since its first vintage in 1980 this label has hardly missed a beat, and could actually be the world's most consistent benchmark wine. The 2012 vintage continues with an even more finely honed and elegant expression than the 2011 release. Made from mature vineyards, the Art Series reds are steadily gaining the depth of genuinely ripe fruit and consistency the Horgan family have been seeking. The current releases of Sauvignon Blanc and the Siblings white blend are delightfully fresh and vibrant.
