Katnook Estate
Katnook Estate used to hold a prominent position amongst Coonawarra's leading producers. Its wines are however some way short of previous performance although there is evidently more craft and effort being applied to its whites, resulting in more complex and textured wines. While still lacking true polish, its reds are now made from more evenly ripened fruit and treated more carefully in oak. This is very encouraging for those, like me, who retain an affection for the brand. My excuse is that I worked there way back when in 1983, when I fell head over heels with the Sauvignon Blanc and the Cabernet Sauvignon, which at that time were two of the hottest wines in Australia.
