Brightly lit, confectionary-like pinot characters of raspberries and maraschino cherries are backed by nuances of dried herbs and lifted by floral scents of red rose petals. It's supple, gentle and medium-bodied, settling down to reveal pleasing red berry/cherry fruits underpinned by a fine, drying backbone

Winery
Hoddles Creek
Planted in 1997, this mature Upper Yarra vineyard comprises 10 ha of pinot noir (five clones), 6 ha of chardonnay, 1 ha each of sauvignon blanc, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, and 1.5 ha of pinot gris. It's cropped at modest levels and produces two very complementary series of high-end wines under the 'Estate' and '1er Yarra Valley' labels. The Estate wines present pure, natural expressions of pristine varietal fruit and delightful cool climate acidity while the 1er Yarra Valley wines begin their lives with superb fruit and charming winemaker-induced complexity before ageing in lustrous, rather Old World-like fashion. The value offered by this winery is simply brilliant. And a warning for their more highly-priced competitors: they;re actually getting better.
