BlackJack Block 6 Shiraz
Bendigo
Price Range at Release: $30-$49
Vintage: 2023
$ Rel: 42
With a perfume of dark berries laced with cracked pepper and underpinned by gentle oak, this Bendigo shiraz is fullish to medium in weight with a brightly lit, translucently clear core of dark plum and berry fruit supported by a firmish spine of crunchy tannins. It's long and evenly paced, delivering a more linear and gentle expression of fruit and chocolatey oak than found from warmer years. It's fresh, persistent and wrapped in a vibrant acidity.

BlackJack
Named after an American sailor who jumped ship and found his way to the Castlemaine goldfields in the 1850s, BlackJack has developed an enviable reputation for its honest, juicy and flavoursome red wines, all of which are typically approachable and affordable. There's an elegance and charm about the 2014 collection, especially the two leading shirazes. The releases over the last three years, each of which come from significantly different seasons, show that the BlackJack team has become particularly adept at crafting wines of more restraint and finesse than one would typically expect from a warm region, regularly delivering surprising subtlety and perfume.
