Just watched an ABC Landline segment promoting the idea that India will save Australian wine. It featured the Federal Trade Minister Don Farrell saying that “I can’t see that over a period of time we shouldn’t be able to expect to sell just as much wine into India as in the past we have sold into China.” He is clearly deranged. India is an extremely small market that is growing very slowly. It might yet expand significantly, but there are traps everywhere. Wineries should exercise extreme caution and keep their expectations realistic. (Image credit: ABC)
