Tassie pips 1% of Australian wine for first time

For the first time ever Tasmania has cracked one percent of Australian wine production by harvesting a State record 23,002 tonnes in 2025 (37% up on 2024) out of a national crop estimated at 1.57 million tonnes. Australia’s grapevine harvest actually increased in 2025 after two very low vintages in 2023 and 2024. You would need to live under a rock not to know that our wine industry is suffering harsh economic times, but it’s fascinating to report that even though it’s only around 1% of the wine trade, Tasmania’s wine industry represents 6.5% of the national value according to Wine Tasmania. In other words, if you’re growing and making wine in Tasmania, it’s likely you’re doing much better if you’re doing the same thing on the Australian mainland.
