Medium in weight but fine and astringent, with a dusty, floral presence of quince, citrus and small red fruits backed by earthy, meaty complexity; it’s quite savoury and drying, long and complete. With time it has developed wonderfully well, retaining a texture based around a fine drying spine and acidity, but revealing some beautiful varietal fruit and savoury quality. A proper nebb.

This ambitious small winery operation in the Yarra Valley is owned by the Besen family, who established it in the early 1980s with the help of David Wollan, today one of the worldŐs foremost wine technologists. By some margin the Reserve Chardonnay is the property's finest wine Đ a sumptuous and complex style that in years like 2013 also delivers elegance and fragrance Đ while the Reserve Pinot Noir is an occasional but less consistent high-flier. The Estate Chardonnay is steadily growing in stature and is now more clearly stamped with the TarraWarra house style. Clare Halloran's team is now showing real form with the two blends of northern Rh™ne white varieties.
