Fresh, uncomplicated aromas of raspberries, cherries, blackberries, plums and mint, with hints of black pepper and sweet oaky nuances of vanilla and charcoal. Fresh and forward, revealing some vibrant fruit flavours along a supple, medium-bodied palate of pleasing intensity. Tightly knit with fine tannins, sporting plenty of vanilla/coconut oak, but just hollow enough to prevent a higher score.

This comparatively large Clare Valley maker releases some occasionally delicious young wines under its main varietal label Đ such as the 2014 Shiraz Đ plus some rather more expensive and very traditional Australian styles under its St Andrews brand. With another fine release from 2014, the St Andrews Riesling remains the company's finest wine. The new 'ultra-premium' The Visionary label, priced around $120 per bottle, has entered the market with some success, its best wine to date being the very refined and silky Shiraz from 2010 (95/100, drink 2030-2040).
