Very stylish and supple, this complex Right Bank blend becomes considerably more powerful, textural and expressive as it breathes. A heady and faintly herbal and spearmint-like bouquet of red and blue flowers lifts an appealing bouquet of mulberries, blueberries, cassis and cedary oak that steadily becomes more smoky and cigarboxy. Supported by an excellent backbone of slatey tannins, it's long and supple, with a vivacious core of fruit that knits with tight-grained oak, finishing with drive and concentration. Very smart indeed.

Frankland Estate
Firstly it was Frankland Estate's collection of European-inspired Rieslings that captured popular attention, but these days its red wines are of near-comparable merit. Let by an outstanding Olmo's Reward and Isolation Ridge Vineyard shiraz, the reds have developed wonderful elegance and balance, based on better viticulture and vines of greater maturity. The Riesling collection continues to provide me with one of the more enjoyable tasting experiences in Australian wine.
