Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz 2009

made from rather overcooked and raisined fruit, this is a finely cultivated, smooth and well handled wine whose briary, spicy bouquet of raspberries, redcurrants, blackberries, blueberries and mocha overlies suggestions of briar, cherry and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied and supported by fine tannins, it delivers a reasonable length and depth of fruit.

Winery

Wirra Wirra is part of the McLaren Vale establishment, although the Adelaide Hills has become the principal source of its white wines. There's an undeniable technical perfection and spotless purity about many of Wirra Wirra's typically elegant and translucently clear wine that speaks volumes of the abilities evident in vineyard and winery. I find, however, that I'm unable to rate several of the company's elite wines more highly because they're simply too clinically pristine to compete against other wines of more expression and character. I'd welcome the intrusion of a little more heart and soul.
