Calabria 3 Bridges Shiraz 2002

Sumptuous, chewy shiraz with a spicy and slightly minty fragrance of cassis, raspberries and dark plums, with assertive chocolate/vanilla oak and underlying nuances of menthol. Richly fruited and handsomely wooded, its handsomely structured palate steamrolls along, leaving a trail of lingering spicy dark fruits and sweet oak in its wake. Firm, but fine tannins frame this Riverland classic.

Calabria
Now known as Calabria Family Wines, Bill Calabria's family business continues to make Griffith's finest range of table wine, although fruit sourcing for the 3 Bridges range has altered to include a Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa Valley. The Durif, Chardonnay and Botrytis Semillon remain from the Riverina. While I understand that with the expansion of the company into regions beyond its Riverina home it makes plenty of sense to do this, I have always been impressed with how well these wines performed using 'local' fruit. The current collection of 3 Bridges wine is simply excellent; even better when price is taken into account.
