Wirra Wirra Woodhenge Shiraz 2004

Smooth, vibrant and velvet-like, this appealingly generous and spicy shiraz is ready to enjoy over the next five years. Its briary and floral aromas of blackberries, raspberries, plums and cranberries have a restrained background of sweet vanilla and dark chocolate oak. There is a meaty, confiture-like aspect to its juicy palate of dark fruits and sweet oak, while it finishes with pliant tannins and savoury, licorice-like nuances.

Winery

Wirra Wirra
Wirra Wirra is part of the McLaren Vale establishment, although the Adelaide Hills has become the principal source of its white wines. There's an undeniable technical perfection and spotless purity about many of Wirra Wirra's typically elegant and translucently clear wine that speaks volumes of the abilities evident in vineyard and winery. I find, however, that I'm unable to rate several of the company's elite wines more highly because they're simply too clinically pristine to compete against other wines of more expression and character. I'd welcome the intrusion of a little more heart and soul.
