Best’s Great Western Thomson Family Reserve Shiraz 2019
$250.00
Very ripe, almost cooked and meaty, this ripe, generous and fruit-driven shiraz reveals a musky, floral bouquet of small red and black berries, dark cherries and dusty oak backed by suggestions of cola, dried herbs and red licorice. Knit with restrained, faintly smoky cedar/vanilla oak, it’s supported by a humble spine of fine loose-knit tannins, delivering some meaty dark fruit that become more sour-edged with breathing.

Winery
Best's Great Western
An icon in Australian wine, BestŐs is an historic winery in western Victoria whose shirazes rate among AustraliaŐs finest. Typical Great Western in style, they're steeped in fruit, laced with black pepper and exotic spices, but achieve a depth of fruit, strength and structure without appearing ham-fisted or clunky. The Bin No. '0' and Thomson Family Reserve Shirazes from 2014 reflect the intensity and harmony of this excellent vintage and will both cellar for the long term. Like several others from this region and from the nearby Henty area, Best's pristine and long-living Riesling continues to improve in its traditional off-dry style.
