Best’s Great Western Bin No. ‘0’ Shiraz 2021

$80.00

Superbly refined and polished, this is a more elegant, medium-weight expression of this wine. Scented with bright aromas of blackberries, redcurrants, dark plums and faintly chocolatey cedary oak, it’s lifted by notes of musky spice, charcuterie and cracked pepper. More of a burgundy style than any in recent memory, its faintly sour-edged but almost viscous presence of black and red fruit and tight-knit vanilla/cedar oak extends long and stylish down a fine spine of drying, sandpapery tannins. It builds its firmness towards the finish, leaving a lingering impression of red licorice as well as savoury and almost saline nuances. A step up in class.

Winery

Best's Great Western
An icon in Australian wine, BestŐs is an historic winery in western Victoria whose shirazes rate among AustraliaŐs finest. Typical Great Western in style, they're steeped in fruit, laced with black pepper and exotic spices, but achieve a depth of fruit, strength and structure without appearing ham-fisted or clunky. The Bin No. '0' and Thomson Family Reserve Shirazes from 2014 reflect the intensity and harmony of this excellent vintage and will both cellar for the long term. Like several others from this region and from the nearby Henty area, Best's pristine and long-living Riesling continues to improve in its traditional off-dry style.
