In what seems half a lifetime ago, MildaraŐs Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon occupied a similar place and prestige in the market to WynnŐs Coonawarra Estate (black label) Cabernet Sauvignon. After a period in the marketing wilderness, during which its makers never let go of their game, the wine is again subject to attention and interest. The cabernet returned to form with a firm, fine-grained wine from 2010 but the 2012 is unusually feisty and rather clunky Đ significantly downgraded in a recent tasting. I much preferred the silkier, slinkier styles of yesteryear and would love to see them return.
