Tomboy Hill
Tomboy Hill is a small Ballarat-based specialist in chardonnay and pinot noir that sources fruit from six different vineyards, crafting individual vineyard wines when quality justifies it. The Rebellion label, which accounts for around 80% of the companyŐs production, represents a blend of these sites, but can offer a quality not far beneath some of the individual vineyard wines. One of the idiosyncratic features of this maker is that its highest-level wines (The Tomboy) are frequently labelled as the 'Picking' of some fortunate individual associated with the Watson family. This can make the hierarchy a little hard to decipher, but in my experience the trouble is worth it! The 2013 The Tomboy Pinot Noir (William's Picking) is a first class wine.
